'This is a manager that needs time': Gerrard and Cole back Potter at Chelsea

Former Chelsea player Joe Cole and ex-Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard are both of the opinion that Chelsea need to give Graham Potter time at the club.

“This is a manager that needs time. I think he’s shown that at Brighton," said Gerrard.

“[At Chelsea] I’m not sure if you get that time unless results are positive. They’ve been inconsistent of late, a lot of new signings have come in.

"I think Graham Potter needs the right type of player that he can coach, develop and improve. The challenge is, is he gonna get that time? He just needs to improve results to get that time.”

Joe Cole added: “I think [Chelsea fans] have to be patient. Graham Potter was never gonna come in like a Conte or a Mourinho where he’s gonna shake it all up.

“He’s also come into the club when you’ve had the ownership changed, all of the recruiment staff changed. The fans are used to new managers coming through the door, but I don’t think the club’s in a position where they can do that. Bringing Potter in, you have to give him time.”
