The World’s Richest Footballer Faiq Bolkiah Reveals Biggest Transfer Regret
Faiq Bolkiah touted as the world's richest footballer has chronicled the biggest transfer regret of his career.
The 24-year-old, who once captained the Brunei national team, has represented clubs such as Chelsea and Leicester City at the youth level.
Despite his association with top sides in England, Bolkiah's professional career failed to take off as expected.
His switch to Maritimo did not yield the positive dividends envisaged, hence had to cut his losses, sealing a move to Thai minnows Chonburi FC in 2021, per Daily Star.
Reflecting on his career, Bolkiah, who has royal ties as the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, spoke about his biggest regret in his professional career.
Speaking to the Main Stand, he said as quoed by SportBIBLE: “I had about three or four offers after Leicester.”
Bolkiah added: “Maritimo said to me ‘you’ll come here, you’ll play’ so I said ‘I just want to be here for a year. The main thing for me is I want to play.’ Obviously, that didn’t happen.
“I definitely regret moving there. I feel like there was a lot of politics to do with it as well, why Maritimo wanted me. I didn’t feel like they were being fully honest.”
“It definitely made me stronger,” Bolkiah explained.
