Mbappe’s Absence On Messi's Return Could Deepen Relationship With The Argentine
Argentina captain Lionel Messi has resumed training with his club Paris Saint-Germain after arriving in France on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old's return to Parc des Princes was marked by the celebration of his achievement of becoming world champion with La Albiceleste.
The Argentine genius was given a rapturous welcome from his teammates and support staff after leading his country to World Cup glory in Qatar last month.
The PSG players, including Brazil star Neymar, and staff formed the classic guard of honour with applause Messi gallantly walked between them.
But one notable absentee during the celebration of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is France international Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman made his way back to PSG, barely three days after the World Cup final heartbreak he suffered against Argentina.
Mbappe's absence coincidence?
However, Marca reports that the 24-year-old decided to take a few days of vacation on Messi's return to the club.
Mbappe, alongside World Cup semi-finalist Achraf Hakimi, were given a few days off their club duties following their 3-1 loss to Lens on Sunday.
The duo were sighted together watching an NBA game between Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs in New York.
Mbappe-Messi rift?
Marca further claims that the absence of Mbappe will likely put more distance between himself and Messi.
Now all that remains to be seen is when Messi will return to wear the PSG shirt in an official match.
It will most likely be next Wednesday, January 11 at the Parc des Princes, where he should be honored by his club after his recent triumph at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
