La Liga tell Barca that they cannot sign new players in January
Barcelona have been in contact with La Liga to understand whether they can sign a player to replace Memphis Depay in January but the response they received was negative, Relevo's credible Toni Juanmarti reports.
Although they have sold Memphis, the salary margin the transfer generates (around €3.5m) is not enough to sign a proper forward. Instead, Barca could use this margin to register the new contracts of Gavi, Ronald Araujo and/or Inaki Pena.
The Catalans continue negotiations with La Liga but president Joan Laporta is pessimistic about the club's chances to bring in a new player this month.
This is good news for 18-year-old Angel Alarcon who's taken Memphis's role in the squad and could get a regular role in the first team. The winger made his debut against Ceuta and has been called up for the game against Getafe.
