I’m 29 years, I don’t like this position – Maguire tells Ten Hag
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has told his manager that he is not enjoying the bit-part role he has been subjected to at the club.
He said he is not going to get used to that position after returning to the Red Devils’ starting XI on Saturday night against Reading.
Maguire is in competition with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof for the centre-back position.
The 29-year-old, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this January, says he does not want to accept a role as backup to any of those players.
“I’m a player, 29-year-old and I haven’t really been in this position in my career so it’s a position that I don’t want to get used to it but it’s part of the parcel of football,” said the former Leicester man.
‘I’m working hard every day, I’m pushing, I’m training well, and when my chance comes I need to take it…”
