'I could only imagine it when I joined in 2012': Azpilicueta reaches 500 Chelsea appearances

Cesar Azpilicueta made his 500th appearance for Chelsea in a 0-0 draw against Liverpool.

There are only five other players who played 500+ games for the Blues. Azpi becomes the first foreign player in this six-man elite club.

"I feel very honoured to reach this number," the captain said after the game.

"I could only imagine it when I first joined the club in 2012. The memories that I have are amazing and I try to enjoy every day and to keep improving,

"I know how tough it is to be successful in football and for me to come to a club like Chelsea after them winning the Champions League, I wanted to create my own history but I could not make it without everybody in the club, without my team-mates over the years, the coaches, members of the staff who had confidence and they trusted me.

"I say thank you for that and I am on the pitch everyday trying to make the most of it, because it is a privilege to play for Chelsea and be the captain of this club and I will keep giving my best."
