Ghana Legend Asamoah Gyan Confirms Use of Black Magic in Football

Former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan has admitted to the existence of black magic - commonly known as juju - in football.

The legendary Ghanaian forward believes some players and teams practice the act of using juju in games for their benefits.

Although he stated he was not being a believer in such things, he confessed taking part in a ritual bath as a young player.

“Anything that has a name exists. Like in colts, we all go together and they tell us 'get this and bath with it, do this and that',” Gyan told Dan Kwaku Yeboah in a YouTube interview, as quoted by Pulse.

Gyan said if one did not follow along and the team lost, other players would claim that person had caused the defeat.

“With Cedar, we did it once or twice. We played Liberty, we were beaten 4-0, but juju is in football. I remember another colts game: a man told us to do something for two goals, sometimes with a padlock. They will tell you if you score one, that is it.”

Gyan holds the record of being Ghana's all-time top scorer, with 51 goals from 109 matches for the senior national team.

The 37-year-old is yet to retire from the sport after almost two years without a club.
