Former Chelsea Striker, Garvin Peacock Now Living A Different Life In Canada As A Pastor
Typically, when a football star hangs up his boots, he is likely to take up a related career in the near future such as punditry, commentary, even football management.
Others like Hakan Sukur decided to venture into their secondary passions in business.
Then there is former Chelsea star Gavin Peacock, who is practically unrecognizable from his playing days after deciding to become a pastor after hanging up his boots.
Peacock has had quite a journey since his retirement from football in 2002.
As reported on Daily Star, he was always a devoted Christian in his playing days and was so invested in his faith that he walked away from a punditry job in order to take up a course in divinity at Ambrose Seminary in Canada.
One of his last clubs before retirement was QPR, where he revealed in a 2013 interview that he had always been all about Jesus Christ even whilst actively playing football.
"I have always spoken about my faith in Jesus Christ but never sensed a call to full-time ministry until six years ago.” He said.
"This call was affirmed by the church and I began to preach. It was then that I felt compelled to pursue vocational ministry. I had been working for the BBC on Match of the Day and Football Focus as well as being sent to World Cups etc.
On his Twitter, he primarily identifies as “associate pastor” before listing himself as a former professional footballer.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Peacock played for Chelsea from 1993 to 1996 where he scored 17 goals in 103 appearances, per Transfermarket.
