Since Chelsea takeover by American businessman Todd Boehly, Chelsea have already spent a fortune most significantly this month.

They coughed out £88.5 million on Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk; a further £35 million on Benoit Badiashile; £29 million for Noni Madueke and £26.3 million on Malo Gusto.

They’ve also signed Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana for undisclosed fees and £9.7 million to sign Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season.

Chelsea have spent lavishly since the summer and the big-money acquisition of Fernandez would inevitably lead to further questions being asked.

And now fans are showing concern via an online petition, which has already emersed 200 signatures since being created on Sunday.

The petition, created by Mohamed Abu, reads: “Chelsea Football Club continues to spend unlimited funds on transfers without punishment, why?

“Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, has embarked on signing so many players within a short period of time that has shocked the world of football.

“The UEFA fair play rules and regulations must be adhered to strictly by every club. We as a football community are united against this and want UEFA TO INVESTIGATE CHELSEA NOW.”

The petition comes two weeks after former Premier League star Danny Murphy described Chelsea’s spending as ‘ludicrous’ on talkSPORT.

“It’s absolutely preposterous, it’s ludicrous, it’s illogical and it’s not helpful in the short-term or the long-term as Graham Potter just said,” the former Liverpool midfielder commented.

“I think he’s sitting at home on an evening thinking ‘what the hell is going on?’ There’s no way he’s sanctioned all these. He brought in some of his own recruitment people.

“Todd Boehly takes himself out of the firing line and brings in two guys, one was the technical director, one was a sporting director. There’s a lot of chefs in the kitchen, a lot of people supposed to be doing one job, too many for my liking.”
