Explained: Real reason why Aguero celebrated World Cup with winners' medal

Sergio Arguero was spotted celebrating Argentina's World Cup title with a winner's medal around his neck. It left some fans wondering why as the former Barcelona striker was neither a player nor a coach for Argentina.

Apparently, the only reason Aguero got the gold medal is because he was registered as one of Argentina's coaches during the tournament.

Back in March, it was reported that Aguero had been included in Argentina's technical staff for an unknown role.

Although Aguero was hardly involved in the day-to-day activities of the Argentine team, he was often close to the team after games and during media duties. On one occasion he even trained with the team and scored in that session.

The 34-year-old retired from football last year after being diagnosed with a heart condition.
