English Club Releases Statement After Player Signs Up For Reality TV Show Love Island
The popular dating show Love Island is set to be graced by yet another non-league footballer, as Macclesfield Town confirmed one of their players would be in the latest season of the franchise.
The television show kicks off once again on January 16, and there are set to be a few changes in the second winter version of the programme.
English TV and radio presenter, Maya Jama will be on hosting duties, and filming is set to take place in South Africa.
And as it turns out, a lower-league player will also once again attempt to find love in the villa.
Love Island, through an official Instagram account, released a teaser of what fans could expect for the new season - and followers of the non-league division one will be familiar with one Tom Clare.
In the video teaser, there is a snippet of Tom introducing himself among the occupants of the infamous villa.
Macclesfield are well aware one of their own will feature on the show, and released a statement to confirm they had given the player a few extra weeks off to take part, as per SportBible.
"Macclesfield FC can confirm that the club have granted Tom Clare an extended period of leave in order to appear in this year’s Love Island competition,” read a statement on the club's website.
"...We were happy to show the same loyalty that he has to us since becoming one of our first-ever signings back in 2021."
