Barca Boast Best Defensive Record Among Teams in Europe’s Top Leagues
Could this be Barcelona’s season to return to the top of Spanish football?
The Blaugrana have not won the La Liga title since 2018/19 but have made a brilliant start to the new season.
Xavi’s men have only been beaten once this season, at the hands of Real Madrid, and only drawn one game, against Espanyol, in their 16 games.
They currently lead Madrid by three points at the top of the La Liga standings.
More impressively, Barcelona have only conceded six goals so far this season, the least of any team in all of Europe’s top 5 leagues.
How other leaders compare
While many expect Madrid to put up a fight as the season goes on, Barcelona’s performance is impressive compared to other league leaders in Europe. Arsenal lead the way in England but have conceded 14 goals already this season, Transfermarkt reported.
In France Paris Saint-Germain top the table but have already conceded 13 goals.
In Germany, it’s Bayern Munich who are sitting pretty at the top, but they’ve conceded 13 goals as well, while Napoli are top in Italy and they have conceded 13 goals too.
Barcelona’s main rivals in Spain, Madrid, have conceded 16 goals already in their 16 games.
Who scored against Barcelona?
Transfermarkt also noted that only Real Sociedad (1), Osasuna (1), Espanyol (1), and Real Madrid (3) have managed to breach the Blaugrana defence this season.
