Bale to be offered ambassador's role to remain part of the Welsh set-up after retirement
Gareth Bale is set to be offered a roving role by the Welsh FA following his retirement from football on Monday.
One of Britain's greatest players called time on a career that brought 21 major trophies, including five Champions Leagues, as well as three major tournaments with his country.
Wales chiefs are keen to keep Bale involved and are poised to hold talks with the 33-year-old's camp in the coming days, and Sportsmail understands an ambassador's role is one of the options to be discussed. That would allow him to spend time with the squad as well as in official circles.
As well as thrashing out Bale's future, Wales bosses are likely to organise an occasion to pay tribute to the star.
Their next competitive fixture in Cardiff is at home to Latvia in March, at the start of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
Bale sought talks with Wales boss Rob Page earlier this week and the former skipper confirmed his intentions when they spoke. 'I would love for Gareth to still be involved in some capacity,' Page told the BBC. 'We had that conversation.
'What that role is we don't know yet, but he just needs some time to spend with his family. I won't go into detail and to what level, but that's as far as we've got with it.
'It's a big adjustment for him, going into a normal life, but we'll have another conversation with him in a few weeks and we'll make a plan moving forward, but he has so much to offer.
'Even just his presence in the changing room, just his presence in the hotel environment, is something that I would be really keen on keeping him involved.
'I'm keen to keep him involved in some capacity it's working out what role that is and I'm sure the FAW would also be keen.
'He's got a great opinion on football and that's why I've involved him in so many conversations, along with many other senior players, and he's still got a lot to offer.'
