The former Arsenal goalkeeper has now started his first match back at the club on the bench, after line-ups were confirmed for the game against Tottenham as Robin Olsen starts instead.
Unai Emery, as quoted by All Football speaking after the game against Liverpool which Villa lost 3-1 said the 30 year old has to be ready physically and mentally before he can start games for the club.
'He is going to be available physically and his mentality we are going to check. Hopefully he is coming 100 percent focused on Aston Villa. Of course he needs to adapt quickly again in our work. When Emiliano is coming back (he has) to adapt again in a new way with us.’ he said .
The Argentine's career has taken an upward turn since replacing Bernd Leno in the Arsenal goal after the German was injured by Neal Maupay in a match against Brighton.
He has won three trophies for his country Argentina after that, including Copa America and World Cup and sealed a move away from Arsenal after a dispute with Mikel Arteta over his role in the team.
