Although Sergio Busquets' future is still up in the air, the possibility of his summer exit is still real.
Let's take a look at the players who could take over the legendary number 5 jersey at Blaugrana.
Ruben Neves
The Portuguese is one of the main candidates to replace Busquets in the long term. He wears the no. 8 at Wolverhampton, but since it is occupied by Pedri, changing it to no. 5 at Barca shouldn't be a problem.
Martin Zubimendi
It will take around €60-80m to lure the 23-year-old from Real Sociedad, yet he remains on the list of Barca's candidates to replace Busquets.
A Spaniard wearing the no. 5 always looks good.
N'Golo Kante
The Frenchman might end up signing for Barca as a free agent if he doesn't extend his current Chelsea deal.
Although no. 7 the preferred one for N'Golo, he has already worn the no. 5 once – in France's national team in the 2016/17 season.
Jorginho
The Barca-linked Italian will be out of contract in 6 months. Blaugrana's interest in the 31-year-old doesn't seem advanced but everything's possible here.
Frenkie de Jong
Positionally, the Dutchman could actually succeed Busquets after this season. However, there is a slim chance of Frenkie changing his current jersey number as wearing the no. 21 is a tribute to his late grandfather.
