UEFA Rankings 2022: Real Madrid Snubbed As Man City, Chelsea Take Top Spots

Real Madrid is surprisingly not the top-ranked team of 2022 after UEFA released the latest club rankings.

The Spanish giants led a dominant season which saw them win La Liga and the Champions League. However, according to how UEFA calculate their coefficients, Manchester City are the top-ranked team of 2022, toppling Bayern Munich who now drop to second place.

City have been awarded 131 points, one more than Bayern Munich. Liverpool and Chelsea are tied in third place with 123 points.

Uefa.com reports that UEFA rankings are based on the results of clubs competing in Europe, with points awarded for wins, draws, qualification and more.

These rankings are often used to determine the seeding of each club and how many places are allocated to member associations during UEFA draws.

Paris Saint-Germain are fifth on the list followed by the reigning champions Real Madrid. Barcelona, Manchester United, Juventus and Ajax wrap up the top 10.

In terms of member associations, England remain on top followed by Spain. Germany's recent surge of success sees them rise to third place before Italy.

On the women's side, Lyon are the highest-ranked nation followed closely by Barcelona. English clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are ranked sixth, seventh and eighth consecutively.
