Ten Hag explains how United can compete with state-owned clubs like Man City and Newcastle

When asked if he feels Man United can financially compete with clubs like Man City and Newcastle United after being taken over by new owners, Erik ten Hag said: “We are able to compete with City and Newcastle.

“I think it’s also about strategy, not just money. It’s clear that when you don’t have the right players and quality players you will not be successful and achieve the targets you set.

“The competition is really tough so you need the right players. We are in a better [position than the start of the season, [heading] in a good direction. But still there is a lot of room for improvement.”

The Red Devils are currently up for sale and are reportedly being eyed by billionaires from countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. In fact, the Saudi Arabia sports minister has even urged investors from his country to take over United.

The Glazers are reportedly hoping to complete a sale of the club before the end of the season, but it remains to be seen who takes over the Red Devils.
