Morocco's World Cup GK Yassine Bounou Nominated For Top FIFA Award

Egypt's GK Yassine Bounou has been shortlisted for the FIFA best goalkeeper award following his impressive performances at the just concluded Fifa world Cup for Morocco .

The Sevilla goalkeeper put in an outstanding performance as the Atlas Lions became the first country from Africa to reach the semi-final of the World Cup.

His performances for Sevilla also made the Spanish side the meanest defence in the 2021/22 Spanish topflight season, earning him the Zamora Trophy.

Yassin Bounou will compete with six other goalkeepers for the award on February 27, 2023 as FIFA finds the successor to Edouard Mendy.

In a list released

World Cup winner Emiliano Martínez, Alisson Becker (Liverpool/Brazil), Thibout Courtois (Real Madrid/Belgium), Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb/Croatia), Mike Maignan (AC Milan/France) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich/Germany) are all in contention for the top honour.

The Canadian-born Morocco goalkeeper could become the second player from Africa to win the coveted award.
