Benfica President Meets With Enzo Fernandez after Chelsea Met His Release Clause

Benfica president Rui Costa held a showdown meeting with Enzo Fernandez last night after Chelsea reportedly met his release clause, according to The Times.

In the meeting, close sources revealed that Benfica tried to talk Fernandez out of leaving them in January. They would rather sell him in the summer.

The 21-year-old is among the core of the Benfica team who are unbeaten in the league after 13 games and qualified for the Champions League round of 16.

Chelsea are said to have offered €120m+ to sign the Argentina midfielder in January. Thus, the final decision rests on the player to angry and join Chelsea.

The young midfielder has excelled for Benfica this season with three goals and five assists in 24 games. He carried that form to the World Cup where he starred in Argentina's triumphant campaign winning the Best Young Player at the tournament.
