Rio Ferdinand insists he would 'put his house' on three teams finishing in the top four
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has insisted that he would put his house on a certain three teams qualifying for the Champions League already.
The race for the Champions League places is heating up, although both Arsenal and Manchester City seem to be pulling clear of the rest of the pack in the Premier League.
The Gunners currently sit top of the league table after the opening 12 matches, just two points ahead of Pep Guardiola's City, while just five points separate the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Former England defender Ferdinand believes the top four is already taking shape and has already picked three teams to finish in the top four, including his former club.
The Red Devils sealed an eighth consecutive victory after beating West Ham United 1-0 on the weekend at Old Trafford, pushing them up to fifth, a point behind Eddie Howe's men and three behind Spurs.
Nevertheless, he remains confident in Erik ten Hag's side who have been in terrific form after an initially poor start to the campaign while he sees Newcastle as a good outside bet to pull off a shock.
‘It will be Arsenal, Man City and Man United – they are the three teams I would put my house on now,' Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel.
‘And then the fourth one I can’t pick. Newcastle could come in and take it.’
Fulham, Brighton and Liverpool are the teams chasing down the top six at present, with many shocked at the poor start from Jurgen Klopp's side, who most would have backed to be in the title race let alone a battle for top four.
The Reds have made it hard on themselves to finish in the top four after a miserable start to the season, which is showing no signs of letting up yet, with Klopp's side losing 2-1 to Leeds on Saturday evening.
The German is not giving on his side turning their fortunes, as he said earlier this week: ‘My job is not only being here in the moment when the sun is shining and someone gives us a trophy.
‘My job is also to be here when we are in a really rough period and I will do that, with all I have, and if possible even more — 100 per cent.
‘Everything will be judged on me now and that is absolutely fine. When people look at me, they will say he looks tired. That is normal. But I am not. I cannot give that excuse.’
