Revealed: Guardiola didn't rule out Barca return in 2021 talk with Laporta but one thing changed his mind eventually
In the spring of 2021, after Barcelona's elimination from the Champions League, Joan Laporta started having doubts over Ronald Koeman, Relevo's credible Toni Juanmarti report.
The president's dream at that time was to bring Pep Guardiola to the club so he got in contact with the Catalan coach. Guardiola didn't give a definitive answer but named one condition: he would consider leaving Manchester City only after winning the Champions League.
The Citizens did reach the UCL final that year but were defeated by Chelsea. Pep then decided that it wasn't the right time to leave Man City, not after losing a Champions League final.
This made Laporta stick with Koeman, although the president had further doubts about the Dutchman at the end of the season. Koeman would eventually get sacked after a horrible start to the next season.
Barca's bet eventually fell on Xavi. Guardiola, meanwhile, has just extended his contract with City until 2025.
