'People see footballers as robots': Maguire opens up on his emotions over social media criticism

Harry Maguire has been one of the most criticised Man United players over the past few years and has lost the starting place under Erik ten Hag.

During an interview with The Times, the defender was asked if he was affected by the criticism from the outside.

"I don’t really like feeling sorry for myself but it’s difficult not to dwell sometimes," Maguire replied.

"I think people see footballers as robots who don’t have emotions, but of course we have emotions. We’re disappointed and we’re hurt when we don’t play well."

If he really has been affected by criticism on social media, then it is no wonder that he looks less and less like a player who was United's most assured defender in his first seasons at the club.

Now, reports are appearing that Erik ten Hag is aiming to have Maguire sold next summer as he is concerned about his lack of speed.
