'Nobody knows who he is. This is a calamity!': ex-Brazil international Neto slams Martinelli's World Cup call-up
Speaking to Os Donos da Bola, former Brazil midfielder Neto said: "Calling up Gabriel Martinelli and not calling up Gabigol is a lack of respect.
"The biggest shame of all the call-ups. Calling up Martinelli shows that you, Tite, shouldn't hold the position you do, because you're not fair to Gabigol.
"The guy [Martinelli] who scores five goals in the season, who walks around the mall here [in Brazil], nobody knows who he is…
"And not taking Gabigol, the guy who scored the goal of the [Copa] Libertadores title, who scored 29 goals in the season!
"What has Martinelli done in European football? Arsenal are not even in the Champions League. This is a calamity!"
Brazil's 26-man World Cup squad was announced earlier this week with Martinelli, along with Gabriel Jesus, being included by head coach Tite.
However, 16-time international Neto clearly believes that 'Gabigol' — real name Gabriel Barbosa — deserved it more after scoring 29 goals this season.
