Manchester United 'eye Harry Kane as Cristiano Ronaldo replacement

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Erik ten Hag saw six new signings arrive this summer in a jaw-dropping spend of £225million. Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka all made the move to Old Trafford ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Although the Dutchman knows a similar spending spree during the January transfer window is not on the cards, the rebuild that Ten Hag has envisaged for the club is by no means complete. Ronaldo's early exit from Old Trafford has now accelerated their efforts to find a centre-forward replacement.

According to reports in Spain, Kane is being considered for a sensational January transfer swoop. The reality is Spurs won't let Kane leave midway through the season, but a summer move may prove plausible.

United have held a long-standing, albeit distant, interest in Kane - and now Ronaldo has left the club, Ten Hag may well pull the trigger on a big-money move to see the Three Lions captain spearhead his attack, in what would be significant statement in the Dutchman's rebuild.

Elsewhere, Brazilian outlet Veja report that Flamengo are looking to sign free agent Ronaldo.

The former United man is the only player at the World Cup without a club following the mutual termination of his contract. That may not be the case for too much longer however, as it is reported the Brazilian side are currently talking to their sponsors to organise a financial package to tempt him to South America.

Ronaldo scored the opening goal for Portugal during his side's 3-2 win over Ghana on Thursday, as the 37-year-old showed the world what he still has to offer on the world's biggest stage.
