Ghana star Bukari speaks on disrespecting Ronaldo with goal celebration
Osman Bukari wrote on social media: “I have noticed my celebration today has generated comments claiming I was disrespectful towards Cristiano Ronaldo. This is incorrect. I was overcome by the emotion of the moment of scoring for my country on my World Cup debut leading to my celebration.
“My upbringing doesn’t permit me to be disrespectful to elders let alone one of my idols. Thanks for your support and we focus on our next game!”
Bukari scored Ghana's second goal in the 3-2 defeat to Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar. He marked the goal by doing Ronaldo's ‘si’ celebration.
Portugal will resume their World Cup campaign on Monday when they take on Uruguay at the Lusail Stadium.
Ghana, who are bottom of Group H, will also be in action on Monday in their clash with South Korea at the Education City Stadium.
Piers Morgan: 'Ronaldo knew interview would end Man United career'
When asked about the repercussions of his explosive interview with Cristiano Ronaldo, he told FS1: "To be brutally honest, I think that he knew.
"Look, he’s a very smart guy, Cristiano, he knows what he’s doing. He and I have built a relationship going back a few years now, and when he rang me he was like ‘I want to do an interview, I want to say everything.’
"I said, ‘if you say everything I think you’re going to say, then you’re probably going to have to leave the club’. He went: ‘I know.’
"So he knew what he was getting into."
The notorious British TV personality continued: "He didn’t think it was a certainty, he didn’t want to say in the interview I’m definitely leaving, I’m going to leave United.
"But this was a guy who at the end of his tenure felt he was being disrespected by the coach, [Erik] Ten Hag, by the owners who he said he’d never even met (and) by the executives of the club who didn’t even believe him when he said his daughter was sick.
"So you put it all together you’ve got a disrespected guy who I think is the best to ever play the game. He said enough."
Morgan's interview prompted Manchester United to terminate Ronaldo's contract, despite having six months to go.
Ronaldo, 37, is now a free agent and it remains to be seen where he joins next.
'This chapter is finished': Cristiano Ronaldo speaks out on Man United exit
Speaking to the media after Portugal's 3–2 win against Ghana at the World Cup on Thursday evening, Cristiano Ronaldo said: "This was a beautiful moment… my fifth World Cup.
"We won (and) we started with a very important win. We know the first match is crucial. But also a world record. The first player to score in five World Cups. That makes me proud.
"The most important step is we won. It was a week that finished this chapter with Manchester United. This chapter is closed. We wanted to start well. We won, I could help my team. All the rest does not matter."
Ronaldo became the first player in the history of football to score at five different World Cup after converting a penalty against Ghana on Thursday.
The 37-year-old is now a free agent after terminating his contract at Man United 'by mutual consent' earlier this week ahead of the January transfer window.
