Edu Gaspar was promoted to Arsenal's new sporting director – his new responsibilities revealed
Arsenal have confirmed that Edu Gaspar has been made the club’s first-ever sporting director, being promoted from his role as a technical director.
CEO Vinai Venkatesham spoke about his new role and said: “We are delighted that Edu is recommitting his future to the Club that he so clearly loves, after making such a positive and critical contribution to our progress in his time with us so far.
“Edu’s promotion formalises his already growing influence over our Academy operations, and we look forward to Per (Mertesacker) and Edu working together to strengthen the integration between our men’s first-team and Academy yet further.”
This means Edu will have a bigger role in looking into the academy and players coming from the system. He’ll continue to look into Arsenal’s transfer business and negotiate the deals with other clubs.
The Brazilian joined the Gunners in 2019 and has done a solid job, signing quality players like Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey for his side.
