De Jong accuses Barca of leaking his contract to the press while trying to push him out of the club
"One day a paper published details from my contract. I didn’t leak it and only one other party knew about this, so it had to be the club who did this," Frenkie de Jong has told De Telegraaf.
"Suddenly there was a letter in which the question was asked whether my contract was still valid because the previous president made the contract. I found it very annoying that the club did this, but I had no further influence on things.
"I blame these people but I have nothing to do with them. Yes, they are Barca for me because they lead the club. But I don’t see them when I’m at the club. I have nothing to do with them in my daily life."
Details from De Jong's contract were leaked to the press back in August when Barcelona were trying to pressure the midfield into leaving. There have also been rumours that the club would try to invalidate Frenkie's new deal but there have been no updates on that.
In the end, the 25-year-old withstood the pressure and stayed at Camp Nou. It's said that Xavi has also changed his opinion on the Dutchman, so we may see him continue beyond next summer as well.
