Conor McGregor says he wants to buy Liverpool
The fighter has confessed through his Twitter profile that he wants to buy the English club: “I requested my information on this.”
Last Monday we were hit with two bombshells. The first explosion was the draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, when the match between Real Madrid and Liverpool, last year’s final (a 0-1 win for Los Blancos), was pulled out of the bag. A moment later the second one hit: Liverpool had been put up for sale.
Fenway Sports Group has put Liverpool up for sale after acquiring it 12 years ago. The announcement has made headlines all over the world and some potential bidders have already thrown their hat in the ring. One of them is UFC fighter Conor McGregor, who has already made his intentions clear on Twitter, after being asked by a fan.
The Irish fighter has proven to be a star inside and outside the octagon, as well as being an intelligent businessman. It is clear now that he wants to go one step further and his idea is to buy the English team, already informing himself of the price: “I would love to! I asked for my information on this, yes. As soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club!”.
Before the 2018 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool, McGregor himself confessed that he was a fan of the Merseyside club: “You know, my family is from Liverpool, and I’m a fan of Liverpool”. However, last year, he did not hesitate to picture himself wearing a classic Manchester United shirt, which has further confused his fans.
Football ownership is not a new idea for MacGregor
McGregor is serious about buying a club, and it’s not the first time he’s tried to get one either. Earlier this year, he already attempted to purchase Chelsea after Roman Abramovich was forced to sell up due to his friendship with Vladimir Putin, who continues to pursue his illegal invasion of Ukraine. “I wish to explore [the option of buying the club]” the fighter commented, adding that “buying a football team is in my future, make no mistake about it.”
