Alonso forces Barca to change January transfer plans For Center Back – explained

Marcos Alonso’s impressive performances as a centre-back has convinced Barcelona to change their January transfer plans, as per Sport.

The Spaniard’s impressive outings as a left centre-back means that Barca will not push for a new centre-back signing in the winter window.

Gerard Pique’s retirement compelled Xavi to start looking for a new defender, but he doesn’t feel that it’s necessary with Alonso’s performances.

The reason why Barca doesn’t want to sign Inigo Martinez in January is because they can sign him for free in the summer once his contract expires with Athletic Bilbao.

The club have also decided to extend Alonso’s contract, which is currently set to expire next year.
