'We value him despite all the criticism': Xavi calls one player 'important wildcard' for Barca

"I spoke to him [Sergi Roberto] last year, when there were doubts about whether he would extend his deal. It was clear to me. He is a very important wild card. He is a highly valued player despite the criticism," Xavi has told the media ahead of the Inter Milan game.

"Sergi Roberto always trains well, always plays well and doesn't give any problems. All coaches want players like him," the Barca boss added.

Sergi Roberto is expected to start at right-back against Inter Milan. The 30-year-old has already had a few good games in this position since the preseason.

The Barca veteran's contract expires in July. It is likely that he leaves the club next year.
