United still in good position to top Europa League group: standings after Matchday 4

After a needlessly dramatic win over Omonia, Man United have all but secured a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

They will only need one point in the remaining two games to guarantee a top-two finish - or they might want to simply wait for Sheriff to drop points.

At the same time, if neither of the top two sides drops points on Matchday 5, United will need to beat Real Sociedad by two goals or more to secure a top spot in the group after losing to them 1-0 in the first game.

Topping the group is important in the Europa League as it would help the team avoid an extra play-off round before the proper knockout stage starts with the Round of 16.

Moreover, it looks like such sides as Ajax, Barcelona and Juventus could be United's potential opponents in that extra round as they are currently third in their Champions League groups - another incentive to beat Real Sociedad convincingly on November 3.
