'Sometimes you have to do that': Potter reacts to Ten Hag's decision to axe Ronaldo
Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, has reacted to Erik ten Hag's decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo for tomorrow's clash. Asked what he has made of Ten Hag’s handling of the Ronaldo situation, Potter replied: "Well I can’t really comment because I don’t know the ins and outs.
"But he’s taken his stance, sometimes you have to do that. And then you need the club’s support and from the outside that’s what has happened."
Probed on whether he would have taken a similar approach, Potter continued: "Well it’s difficult for me to comment because I don’t know the actual context, I don’t know what’s really happened, I don’t want to go off headlines and things like that. Part of the job is to take some decisions that are difficult, but that’s normal."
Speaking earlier in the day about his decision to reprimand Ronaldo, Ten Hag said: "What the talk – if you ask about that – is between Cristiano and me, the statement is also clear, I think. He remains an important player in the squad."
Ronaldo is being disciplined for walking away from Old Trafford before the end of Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
