Manchester United's next five Premier League games and how they compare to nearest rivals

Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League thanks to an impressive 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday. The come-from-behind win saw goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo cancel out Alex Iwobi's opener at Goodison Park.

The victory sees Erik ten Hag's side move up to fifth, with 15 points from eight games played. The games come thick and fast before the season pauses for the World Cup next month. United, like all their rivals, have a clutch of matches coming up and by the end of the run, they will have a clearer indication of whereabouts they will be challenging this season.

The next five league games see them face tricky tests against plucky Newcastle, and top four rivals Tottenham and Chelsea. Games against West Ham and Aston Villa are also potential banana skins for United.

But how do they compare to their rivals in and around the top four? Tottenham may be five points ahead of United at present but they have a tough-looking schedule in the weeks ahead.

Antonio Conte's side are scheduled to face not only United but Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and surprise package Bournemouth. Chelsea will also face United before October is out, with Graham Potter also scheduled for a first return to take on his former club Brighton later this month.

Newcastle are hoping to gatecrash the top six this term and after a solid start the next five fixtures will see if they are built to last the pace. Eddie Howe's side visit Old Trafford next weekend and also face stern tests against Everton and Tottenham. Brighton's new chief Roberto de Zerbi has had a harsh introduction to life in the Premier League so far and it hardly gets easier over the next month with games against Manchester City and Chelsea coming up.
