Liverpool told to hold on to Firmino after Nunez flatters to deceive after 7 games

Roberto Firmino could walk away from Liverpool as a free agent in 2023 when his contract ends.

Liverpool icon John Barnes is terrified of that prospect and has told the Reds to hold on to the Brazilian. Particularly after Darwin Nunez still isn't looking like the real deal after seven games.

“Firmino is my favourite striker in terms of what he gives his team not just in terms of scoring goals but work rate,” Barnes said on BonusCodeBets.

“He’s the reason (Mohamed) Salah and (Sadio) Mane scored all of those goals because of the way he plays. If Bobby left, I would be very sad

“Obviously we have (Darwin) Nunez who plays differently but I would always keep Bobby. And if he left, I would be very sad."

"He has to decide if he wants to play regularly but if it was up to me I would definitely keep Bobby,” Barnes concluded.

It must be noted that Firmino has played more games (329) than any other Liverpool player since Klopp became coach - that signals his durability for the club.

The Brazilian remains Liverpool's top scorer after 9 games with 5 goals and 3 assists.

As for Nunez, he flattered Reds in the Community Shield with the winner. But his early season form has proved deceptive as he's only managed 2 goals in 7 games.
