'Levers work for them this season but not next one': Tebas fires warning to Barca
"If they go out of the Champions League, they will have less income but they will not have to pay bonuses.
That will not change much," La Liga president Javier Tebas said about Barcelona's possible elimination from the Champions League, as quoted by Football Espana.
"But the levers have worked for them this season but not for the next one. They have to reduce salary mass, they cannot continue with more than 500 million euros.
"Because if not next season we will use the 1/4 rule for them again."
The 1/4 rule allows clubs to register new players when they exceed their salary limit. It is applied when a club can prove they will earn four times the amount of the player's salary. Say, a player earns €1m and a club can register him if they can prove they will earn additional €4m in the future.
Barcelona will have to lower their salary bill to adhere to La Liga's strict financial rules.
