'I’ve said now plenty of times': Klopp insists Trent's defending is not an issue

"I’ve said now plenty of times there’s no problem with [his] defending," Jurgen Klopp said told BT Sport when asked to rate Trent Alexander-Arnold's performance in a new formation.

"It’s just the way we play. In good moments it’s of use to play like this - everything is fine, nobody is worrying about it when Trent is pressing high and the ball is played over his head. Joel [Matip], Ibou [Konate] or Joe [Gomez] are there for protection and it’s all fine.

"If you are not there, it looks like you’re exposed. For today we though it made sense to set it up a bit more serious."

Trent's form has been under scrutiny for some time, with the lack of attacking returns making his defensive issues more evident.

Against Rangers, however, Alexander-Arnold was quite solid - if untested - defensively while also scoring a beautiful free-kick to give Liverpool an early lead.
