'He was magnificent in protecting the box': Ten Hag lauds Maguire after West Ham win

Singling out praise for Harry Maguire after Man United’s 1-0 win over West Ham United, Erik ten Hag told BBC: “I am really happy for the team of course but also Harry Maguire as he came off the pitch with a clean sheet.

“He was magnificent in protecting the box. He is a great player and a really good defender and we have seen how important he is for the squad.”

Maguire looked really solid against West Ham’s aerial threat and made a number of key challenges to avert disaster. He paired up well with the brilliant Lisandro Martinez to frustrate the visitors.

The United captain could get to start more games before the World Cup break due to Raphael Varane’s injury and Victor Lindelof’s unavailability.
