Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel 'turns down the opportunity to manage Bayer Leverkusen'

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has turned down the chance to take charge of Bayer Leverkusen.

Tuchel was sacked on September 7 in the aftermath of Chelsea's Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

As reported by AS, Bayer Leverkusen were looking to persuade Tuchel to make a return to the Bundesliga.

However, the 49-year-old didn't have any interest in the job offer.

Leverkusen are still managed by Gerardo Seoane and have endured a miserable start to the season - they are in the relegation zone having taken just five points from eight games so far.

Tuchel possesses extensive experience of managing in the Bundesliga having previously coached Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.

During his time at Chelsea Tuchel won the Champions League in 2021.

However, Tuchel had a difficult relationship with new owner Todd Boehly and was reportedly left frustrated at his increased involvement in the club's transfer activity.

Chelsea elected to replace Tuchel with Graham Potter, who has won one and drawn one of his two matches in charge so far.

Tuchel was in charge of Chelsea for 100 games, of which he won 60, drew 24 and lost 16.
