Barca 'seriously consider' signing new centre-back in January

It's been just over a month since the summer transfer window closed, yet, due to injury crisis, Barcelona are likely to enter the market for a new defender in winter, Mundo Deportivo reports.

According to the source, Barca seriously consider the signing of Inigo Martinez from Athletic. The likes of Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo suffered injuries during the international break. with the latter ruled out for over two months after undergoing surgery.

More recently, the Blaugrana saw Andreas Christensen sustain an ankle injury. It has left Xavi with just Eric Garcia and Gerard Pique as the senior centre-back options heading into a busy fixture schedule. 

To avoid another situation like that, Barca want to reinforce their squad with Martinez in January. As you might remember, we tried to sign the player in summer, but Bilbao rejected the offer back then.
