Balde reportedly could be called up for World Cup ahead of Alba
According to El Razon, Alejandro Balde could become a surprise call-up for Spain for the 2022 World Cup. The young left-back could make the list ahead of Jordi Alba, who's lost prominence at Barcelona this season.
Jose Gaya from Valencia is sure to make the list but coach Luis Enrique is yet to decide who will be his backup.
Marc Cucurella is another option. Marcos Alonso, on the other hand, is not considered.
Balde, at 19 years old, is yet to make his debut for the senior national team. Most recently, he played for Spain U21.
This term so far, Alejandro has played 11 games for Barca and recorded three assists. He is Xavi's preferred option at left-back ahead of more experienced Alba and Alonso.
