2022/2023 Top 10 Ballon d'Or power rankings: Federico Valverde and Robert Lewandowski 2nd/7th

Ballon d'Or power rankings

The race for the next Ballon d'Or award began in August, even before Karim Benzema lifted his maiden trophy in Paris this October. Although it's still early days in the season, here is the current power rankings as things stand.

1. Erling Haaland

The Norwegian striker is easily the hottest striker in Europe at the moment. He's already broken the record for being the first player to score hat-tricks in three consecutive Premier League home games.

Overall, Haaland has bagged 22 goals and three assists in just 15 games. The Manchester City star will be hard to stop. However, if someone below him on the list wins the World Cup he could be toppled because Norway won’t be in Qatar to compete.

2. Federico Valverde
The Uruguayan is having an unbelievable season at Real Madrid. He's already scored seven goals this season, plus two assists. He scores in big games too - like his belter in El Clasico.

Valverde's teammate at Real Madrid believes the 24-year-old is among the top three best footballers in the world right now - we can't agree more.

3. Lionel Messi
Arguably the greatest footballer to ever grace a football pitch - Lionel Messi is once again turning heads and defying logic for PSG in France.

The Argentine legend has scored nine goals and registered 10 assists in just 15 games. That's simply incredible for a 35-year-old who plays mostly in midfield these days.

4. Neymar
The Brazilian always seems to be in Ballon d'Or discussions when he's fit and firing for club and country. He's been doing just that for PSG this season.

Neymar has tallied an impressive 12 goals and 9 assists for PSG in 16 games. For Brazil, he's scored 5 goals and claimed 2 assists in 2022.

5. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Don't bother trying to pronounce the name, just look at the Georgian's stats for the season - seven goals and eight assists in 15 games for Napoli. Add that to his five goals and four assists for his country this year.

Averaging more than one goal contribution per game, Kvaratskhelia is a big reason why Napoli are seated comfortably atop Serie A. His form has also helped the Partonopei qualify for the Champions League round of 16 - one of the first clubs to do so.

6. Pedri
The Spanish midfielder has been brilliant for Barcelona since the start of the season. His ability to play anywhere in midfield sets him apart from midfielders of his generation.

The 19-year-old has added goals to his game as we saw last season. He's scored twice this term for Barca.

7. Robert Lewandowski
The Polish goal machine has carried on his form from Bayern Munich to Barcelona. Lewandowski has stunned Spain with 17 goals for Barca this season - he's played just 15 games.

If the 34-year-old carries in with this form he could finish higher up this ranking by the end of the season.

8. Vinicius jr
The Brazilian winger is showing that his form last season was no fluke. Vini is already averaging one goal per game with seven goals and six assists in just 16 Real Madrid games.

Los Blancos are blazing the trail in La Liga and the Champions League once again with Vini's help.

9. Kevin De Bruyne
The Belgian midfielder has been key to Haaland's incredible form in the Premier League with his ability to thread the needle with key passes for the Norwegian.

De Bruyne already has 11 assists in 15 games, plus two games. Nine of those assists came in the Premier League.

10. Phil Foden
The young Englishman has blazed the trail in the first few months of the season with astonishing performances for Manchester City - like scoring a hat-trick against Man United in the Manchester derby for instance.

Foden has claimed seven goals and three assists in 15 games this season. If he has a great World Cup he could be a strong contender for the top 5.
