Manchester United FC Squad 2022 – First Team 2022/23

Manchester United have had a disappointing season compared to their original expectations. With the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United were expected to do very big things. They had their sights set on qualifying for the Champions League. However, neither of those ambitions were met. Last season they finished sixth in the Premier League and they will be playing in the Europa League this season.

Manchester United have bolstered its defensive personnel with the signings of Lisandro Martínez and Tyrell Malacia. The arrival of two players is slowly starting to show a positive impact, albeit the Red Devils have had a rocky start to the season. Under Erik ten Hag, United have done a great job in pre-season. They also called Christian Eriksen and Casemiro into their midfield setup this summer.

David De Gea has featured for Manchester United in all games last season. He is our number one choice goalkeeper. It had been a tough year for the Spaniard due to the number of goalkeeping blunders he was responsible for last season. Meanwhile, Tom Heaton is their second-choice goalkeeper.

United had a lacklustre defence for many years since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made the right moves in signing Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who have bolstered the ailing backline with their presence.

Victor Lindelof has cemented his position in the heart of the defence alongside Maguire, while Luke Shaw has made the left-back position his own. The defensive personnel of Solskjaer looks pretty set with Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Diogo Dalot, Brandon Williams and Timothy Fosu-Mensah serving as deputies for the above quartet.

In the summer of 2021, they signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. He was the regular player in the debut season. Ahead of the season 2022/23, they signed Lisandro Martínez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. Ten Hag made two good addition to the defence.

Bruno Fernandes was the standout performer for Manchester United in the last two seasons. He has single handily managed the midfield for the club. He played an important role in United’s impressive season in 2020/21, finishing second in Premier League.

With the departures of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, the Red Devils were short adequate quality options in the midfield. But has changed with the arrival of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. We are yet to see how the US international fits in the United squad.

Manchester United bought their former centre-forward last summer and he did a great job in his second debut season. However, Erik ten Hag has shown his faith in youngsters by promoting the supremely-talented Mason Greenwood to shoulder the responsibilities of playing as a first-team attacker.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will have a big role to play as they will act as the seniors to the newly-promoted youngsters. The duo will have to set good examples as forwards.
