Liverpool Women come from behind to beat champions Chelsea in 2-1 win on opening day of FAWSL season
Liverpool marked their return to the FA Womens' Super League after a long absence with a win against rivals Chelsea in dramatic fashion.
The Reds conceded a penalty in the 1st minute of the game, that was dispatched by Chelsea's Fran Kirby.
Liverpool were resilient through the rest of the half even though Chelsea dominated the majority of possession.
Megan Campbell was brought on for Liverpool in the second half and had a major impact. One of her trademark long throws caused chaos in the opposition box, leading to a penalty given for handball, which Katie Stengel finished perfectly.
Stengel was on hand to deliver the final blow in the 87th minute as well, when she won a penalty and sealed all three points for the Reds by dispatching that one too.
