LEAKED: Gerard Pique has 'Sergio Ramos clause' in his contract with Barcelona
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique's rivalry with former Spain teammate Sergio Ramos prompted him to add a special clause in his contract at the Camp Nou.
Amid Pique's lack of playing time under manager Xavi, Spanish outlet El Mundo has leaked details of his contract.
Ramos now plays for Paris Saint-Germain but back when he captained Real Madrid, Pique's deal included a clause that made him earn more money than his rival.
Signed in 2018, Pique's deal made him the highest-paid centre-back in the world. Between 2017-18 and 2021-22, the 35-year-old reportedly earned an astonishing €142 million.
After taxes, he pocketed around €15 million per season in comparison to Ramos, who is believed to have earned around €12.5 million.
That's not all - Pique also signed a contract renewal during the Covid-19 pandemic. In doing so he earned an €18 million gross figure in 2020/21, rising up to €40.8 million in 2023/24!
Pique has started just one game for Barca this season, with the club reportedly trying to get him to take a pay cut.
