'It's something we can do': Barcelona's economic vice-president on re-signing Messi
"As it [re-signing Leo Messi] would be on a free, so surely it is something that we can do. But it would be a technical decision anyways," Barcelona's economic vice-president Eduard Romeu has told the media, via Fabrizio Romano.
"There is a salary margin, we made an effort this summer on salaries," he added.
By saying this, Romeu means that Leo Messi will have to adapt to the new salary limits set by Joan Laporta. Starting from 2022, no player is expected to make more than €10m net per year. If a player's salary is higher than that, the pay cut will be negotiated – as it is going to happen to Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona reportedly dream of Messi's comeback as a free agent next summer. The player is said to have decided that this will be his final season with Paris Saint-Germain.
