'It's an honour that someone like Xavi is interested in you' - Morata opens up on failed Barcelona transfer
Speaking to the media the other day, Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata brought up his failed transfer to Barcelona yet again.
"I had options to sign for Barca. Xavi called me, and we talked about football. It's an honour that someone like Xavi is interested in you. He convinced me with his speech. I watched him play when I was a kid".
"I went to speak to Allegri but he told me no, he wanted me to stay".
The Spaniard was twice on Barca's signing shortlist. First, in January - while still a Juventus player. However, the club opted for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back then.
In summer, Morata was considered as a backup plan in case Robert Lewandowski's transfer failed. Luckily for us, the deal was sealed.
The Polish striker has so far scored 11 goals and assisted 2 more in 8 appearances for the club. Morata, on the other hand, has a tally of just 3 goals this season.
