'I cannot keep all players happy every game': Erik ten Hag speaks out on benching Cristiano Ronaldo
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Erik ten Hag said: "Cristiano Ronaldo started against Brentford. Then not since but he is ready to start. We have to win every game, we want to win every tournament, so we take everything seriously.
"We not only have a team, we have a squad, that is clear. That is the mentality Manchester United needs. Maybe I cannot keep all [of the players] happy every game but everyone gets their game-time if they perform well, quite clear.
"We need everyone, we have a lot of games to cover in front of us, it's not only the national teams and the World Cup but the FA Cup, the Europa League, the League Cup and, of course, the Premier League."
Ronaldo was left on the bench by Ten Hag for last four of Man United's games in the Premier League, with the Red Devils winning all of the fixtures.
The Portuguese will have a chance to impress the new manager on Thursday with the Dutchman likely to start the 37-year-old against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.
