Greater Manchester Police explain why Man United vs Leeds game had to be postponed
The Greater Manchester Police have released an official statement detailing why they couldn’t provide security for Man United’s game against Leeds United, leading to it being postponed.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Inspector Nicolas Hill said: “Greater Manchester Police is supporting forces across the United Kingdom in keeping people safe at locations and events of high-significance following the passing of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“We have plans in place to ensure we can provide this support whilst effectively serving our own communities. We are also working with partner agencies to consider the viability of un-related but exceptionally large events in Greater Manchester.
“This includes the Manchester United vs. Leeds fixture, which has been postponed with the support of the Safety Advisory Group and the club.”
United are likely to play their postponed games in January, which could cause a serious fixture pile-up for Erik ten Hag’s side. They will play their final match of September on Thursday, facing FC Sheriff in the Europa League.
