Agbonlahor names one thing Potter got wrong vs Salzburg - fans appear to agree

Ex-Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor argued that Graham Potter made a mistake by leaving Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana on the bench in the Champions League game against Salzburg.

Instead, Potter relied on a makeshift back three that consisted of two full-backs - Cesar Azpilicueta and Marc Cucurella - and a 37-year-old Thiago Silva.

"He (Potter) needs to pick his best two centre-backs and just give them game time. That’s got to be Koulibaly and Fofana, the money they’ve been bought in for," Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.

In fairness, some of the fans on social media picked up on this even before the game when there was confusion as to which formation the Blues will play.

After the game, with both Silva and Azpilicueta complicit in Salzburg's only goal, this question was asked even louder.

Football Therapy: "So you're gonna play a 2 CB system. Fofana & Koulibaly make sense. But nah, 38-year-old Silva and non-CB Azpi for the yolos."

Pys: "Silva made a dodgy tackle but you can’t tell me Fofana or even Koulibaly doesn’t get across to that cross faster than Azpi, it’s so so poor from Kepa aswell, captain this captain that, stop playing Azpi, he isn’t good anymore and hasn’t been for ages."

TweetChelseaUK: "Azpilicueta really shouldn’t be starting and I hope soon Potter discovers this. Literally no need for him when you have Fofana AND Koulibaly sitting there."

Mohamed Wehliye: "Graham Porter playing Azpi with Fofana and Koulibaly on the bench. Very amateurish!"

Alexis’ Kavkas View: "Azpi getting a new contract is proving very costly. Fofana & Koulibaly should be starting. This is that experience nonsense."
