3 Possible replacements for Jordi Alba As Barcelona Defender set to leave Next season
Diario AS, Sport and multiple Spanish outlets are claiming that Jordi Alba will leave Barcelona at the end of the season.
There are a handful of players who could replace the veteran left-back. However, we've narrowed Barca's options to three.
Alex Balde
The teenager has shown so much promise for Barcelona this season with three assists on his record already. The young man truly looks like a long-term option at left-back.
Based on his performances, Balde is at the top of the pecking order among the left-backs at the club right now and there's nothing stopping him from filling Alba's shoe for many years to come.
Marcos Alonso
Alba's departure may necessitate a contract extension for Marcos Alonso. The defender joined Barcelona on a one-year contract which means he could leave at the same time as Alba if his deal is not renewed.
Alonso offers experience, attacking prowess and the ability to score freekicks. Barcelona could hold on to the 31-year-old for a few more years.
Jose Gaya
Barcelona could go after the 27-year-old Spaniard who's also tested and trusted for his quality as a left-fullback.
Gaya will come in with La Liga experience. His profile fits Barca too, as he's fast and boasts an 85% passing accuracy.
Barca could land him for free in 2023 when his contract expires.
